The Mitek Products, a division of ETHICON Limited, is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of innovative medical devices for surgery, with focus on sports medicine and reconstruction.
In 1985, Mitek developed and introduced implantable orthopaedic implants utilising technology employing a (memory retaining) nickel-titanium alloy known as Nitinol. Today the company's main products, suture anchoring implants, are recognized worldwide as the gold standard for tissue reattachment in a wide range of clinical indications. Mitek's suture anchors are primarily used to reattach damaged ligaments and tendons in the shoulder, rotator cuff, wrist, thumb and ankle. Increasingly, Mitek's Micro Anchors are used for precise repair and reconstruction by hand, plastic and craniofacial surgeons.
Mitek also markets the innovative VAPR Bipolar Radiofrequency System, for rapid and precise soft tissue removal and modification, with simultaneous control of bleeding. Recently, in February 2000, Mitek acquired Innovasive Devices. The Innovasive portfolio of products has expanded Mitek's offerings for Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction as well as Meniscal and Cartilage repair. This acquisition continues to reinforce Mitek's Mission Statement - To become the world leader in Soft Tissue Management with focus on Surgical Sports Medicine and Musculo-Skeletal disorders.
