(December 11, 2003) -- The recent discovery of counterfeit medical devices in the secondary market in the U.S. highlights a risk to our customers and patients who depend on the quality and reliability of medical devices and diagnostics products manufactured by members of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies.
We are working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in its investigation. For further information about identifying the counterfeit product, please refer to www.ethicon.com
We are deeply concerned about the threat this poses to public health. We need to work together to keep health care products as safe as we can by taking important, reasonable steps to keep counterfeiters out of the marketplace. Effective immediately, we are requesting distributors not to source Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies members’ products from an entity other than Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc. and its affiliates**. Unless they acknowledge and agree to source our products exclusively from JJHCS and its affiliates, they will lose their status as a distributor effective March 5, 2004.
