images/bwi_logo.gif

Biosense Webster, also part of Cordis, leads the rapidly expanding field of electrophysiology catheterization for treating cardiac arrhythmia. Biosense Webster is actively involved in treating ischemic heart disease and creating innovative intracardiac procedures, such as gene therapy, to stimulate growth of new blood vessels in the heart where circulationis impaired and surgical or angioplasty treatment is not possible.

For instance, in research to treat previously untreatable advanced coronary atery disease, physicians can now use Biosense approach to treat bloodstarved areas of the heart with a lasertipped catheter that produces channels in the affected areas. Researchers believe that this stimulates angiogenesis (new vessel formation).
